“work From Home Leads”
Is a Lead abatement done on a house tax deductible?
In 2008, I had a child that showed up high with lead in his blood work. When the Ohio Department of Health caught wind of this..all hell broke loose. I received a letter stating I had 10 days to arrange to have the “lead” removed from my home. If I didn’t, action would be taken to condemn my house or have my children removed from my home.
Needless to say, $11,000 later, the lead abatement was completed. This is why I was wondering if any of that $11,000 would be tax deductible. If you have any answers for me, I would appreciate it.
PS: My son’s lead level has dropped..so the abatement was a success.
Probably not deductible on anything to do with the house. Possibly under a Schedule A medical deduction.
It would have been deductible on a rental house that you owned. I don’t even think it qualifies as a “capital improvement” like a room addition..
