In this big wide world that we live in there are thousands if not millions of different types of businesses for each of us to choose from, if that’s what you want to do. Many people are happy doing the 9 – 5 thing, 5 or 6 days a week bringing home a regular pay check, be it big, small or whatever. But that’s obviously not for every one.

Lots of us want to be in control of our own destiny, so we work out what it is we are passionate about and some how get started in our own business in that field. Some of us will work in a business that we have stumbled into or inherited even if it is not one that really gets the heart pumping and the juices flowing, but at least you are in control and you don’t have to answer to any one.

Either way there are some very important things to consider when starting a new business, wether it be a bricks and mortar business in retail sales, trades and construction or some professional capacity. And in today’s market you can add to those opportunities like franchises, home based businesses, MLM, network marketing, direct marketing and internet based sales and distribution businesses.

So before you go charging out the gate, throwing your hard earned and saved money into a new business you do need to do some serious thinking and planning. But where do you start, well if you’ve decided on a business that is in line with your passions and beliefs then it will be easy for you because you will already know what it is you want and what criteria you need to fulfil to make everything to come together.

But for many of us this will require some research to be sure that any companies you might be aligning yourself with are all above board and legitimate.

Due diligence is a term commonly used these days to describe this process, meaning that you alone are responsible in making sure that the new business opportunity you are looking to get involved in is going to meet your criteria and tick all of the boxes.

These criteria will vary greatly from business to business and for different people, but once you established you should not waiver or make exceptions.

Here are four of the most critical components you will want to have in a business to be assured of generating a substantial income with minimal effort.

• Passive residual income

This is the easiest money you will earn, with a good leveraging system in place you can achieve this very quickly; it’s like getting paid to go to bed at night or to have a holiday.

• Sell B4 you buy

This is like playing with other people’s money, you make a sale, place the order, collect the payment. Then the goods get shipped out to the customer and you don’t have to handle anything but the money.

• Top Shelf products

You don’t want to be trying to generate a substantial income selling cheap gadgets for $10, $50, or $100 etc, you would need to sell 1000’s.You need to be selling quality products that cost $$$ to make high profits.

• Up selling

If you have a 2nd and 3rd level of products to up sell to each new customer then you will save time and money because you won’t have to spend anything on marketing for those sales.

• Belief in the products

This goes without saying really, but I will say it any way. You need to be a fan of the products, passionate about the benefits of them. Even better be a user yourself so you can talk first hand about the value and the benefits.

Once you have established and found a business that meets your criteria, and you have done your due diligence all that is left is to make the commitment and learn all you can, because knowledge is power and this will give you the confidence to forge ahead and make those critical decisions.
